What is myofascial release?
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Most of us have strains in the body mainly caused by overuse and poor posture and this will inevitably have an effect on our Myofascial system which surrounds all the structures in our body. The treatment is used to release the connective tissue which has become stuck, hardened and dehydrated. Its three dimensional web surrounds every bone, muscle, nerve, organ and vessel down to the cellular level from head to toe.
Restrictions can develop in fascia from trauma, poor posture and repetitive training. These restrictions can create pain, swelling, misalignments, poor muscular biomechanics, decreased range of motion, decreased strength and lameness. Restrictions in the fascial system will also put pressure onto bones, ligaments, muscles and organs causing the structures to misalign or become constricted resulting in ineffective muscle usage, poor circulation, build up of toxins, strain and eventually trauma/injury.
